Thanksgiving and Gratitude

ThanksgivingHappy Thanksgiving everyone!

For our friends living outside the US, Thanksgiving is a holiday set aside to focus our thoughts and attention on what we have to be grateful for. The traditional “first” Thanksgiving was in 1621 when early American settlers shared a feast with the local Native Americans to thank God for the harvest. It is of course a tradition that many countries and cultures have had, and still do have,  for ages; in the US Thanksgiving became a national holiday in 1863.

Today Thanksgiving is one of the most important holidays on the US calendar and typically involves family gathering for a way too big of a feast with turkey, stuffing, potatoes and pumpkin pie.  And, while fellowship with family, American football, and the kick off to the Christmas shopping season have all become a part of the holiday, I think the heart of Thanksgiving, gratitude for what we have, whether one recognizes it came from God or not, is still an important part of the day for most people.

Gratitude is a crucial part of God’s will for us.  Scripture ties our ability to praise God with our gratitude, “That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever” (Psalm 30:12). Gratitude is what happens to us when we walk in humility and contentment.

We at Dwelling Place International Ministries have a lot to be grateful for!  Among many other things, we are grateful:

–For each of you who choose to join and participate in our community.

–That God is calling this ministry to move to a level we couldn’t reach on our own to bring the Good News and freedom to a hurting world.

–That Rick is back from his international travels with lots of stories of God’s faithfulness and work.

–That Dwelling Place New River Valley, Smith Mountain Lake and Big Stone Gap are teaching God’s truths and celebrating Jesus in their communities.

–That we have so many friends and family around the world who are making use of DPI’s resources and teaching.

–For our missionaries who have left the US to serve overseas, and for those in other countries who have come here to serve and teach us.

–That people continue to sow financially into this ministry to help it reach more and more people.

–For a Heavenly Father who calls us sons and daughters, and who loved us so much that He was willing to give his only begotten Son that we might not perish but have everlasting life.

What are you grateful for today? Please share with us in the comment section below so we can be grateful with you, and so we can praise the Lord for all He does!

A donation helps us provide teaching for little to no cost. Please consider sowing into the ministry.

Thankful for the people He has placed in my life who Love the Lord and leak out, lift up, bring alongside and just -Love- because of what He did and still does for us.
So thankful that He reveals Himself even in the daily things around us to confirm that HE KNOW us.. and Loves us anyway!
Thankful that you will share so freely the gift He has given… regardless of how much feedback comes in… you continue to obey His command and preach the gospel. Thank you that you never give up!
I am also thankful for those that don’t give up on me.
Thankful for His provision… His Love.. His Grace.. and His Trust as He allows our stories to touch other lives and lead them out of the darkness and give them Hope.
