The Power of Words – Part 3

words3

We’ve talked about the power of words, both spoken and unspoken, the definition of confession (to speak the same thing as) and the role our words have in salvation “for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation (Rom 10:10). However, the principle of confession and the salvation of God does not end with our receiving the privilege of going to Heaven. Confession and salvation impact healing (Matthew 9:20-23), deliverance, victory over sin (1 John 1:9) and the fulfillment of the promises of God for blessings and provisions (2 Corinthians 1:20).

The verbal tense for the Greek word “confess” is a picture of continuous action, not just a one-time event. In other words, the full salvation of God is released in our lives by the continual confession of the truth of God. There many different areas in our lives that need the salvation of God, and confession and believing are the keys that release God’s provisions.

Let me give a few more examples of how confession, or speaking the same thing as God, releases the resources of Heaven.

One of the most important facets of God’s salvation is the forgiveness of sin. Confession is crucial to release God’s forgiveness into our lives. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

We know Hebrews 9:22 tells us that without the shedding of blood there cannot be any forgiveness of sin. We also know that the blood of Jesus has been given to us for the forgiveness of our sins. “…the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). So, God has spoken that it is the blood of His Son Jesus Christ that is the basis for the forgiveness of our sin (Romans 5:8-9).

When we confess our sins, we agree with God concerning His forgiveness. When we agree with God about our sins and His forgiveness, the resource of the blood of Jesus is released into our lives and complete forgiveness is applied to our sin. Our confession and God’s salvation are at work to bring about the forgiveness of sin

Another place where we see the significance of confession and God’s salvation is in our opportunity to participate in God’s nature. God’s promises enable us to participate with His nature and as a result we are empowered to overcome the enslavement of all types of lusts. “…He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust” (2 Peter 1:4).

As we established in Drawing on God’s Bank Account, God’s promises are like a check.  The funds are released when we endorse the check by the declaration of our “amen” or “let it be”. “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God” (2 Corinthians 1:20; NIV). And when God’s resources are released into our lives, we can start participating in God’s nature and gain victory over the sin that is activated by lust.

And in every area of our lives we can be overcomers.  Our Heavenly Father has made it possible for us to be born again. As a result, He has revealed to us and declared over us the truth that we are overcomers of the world, its obstacles and lusts. “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world, this is the victory that has over the world, our faith” (1 John 5:4).

When we come into agreement with God through the confessions of our faith, we release into our lives the resources of God that empower us to overcome the world. There is nothing about us that is overcoming the lust of the world and flesh, but it is the provisions of God at work in us (1 Thessalonians 2:13). As we continually confess the truth of God concerning our lives, the Lord is faithful to bring about that which He has spoken over us. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful…(Hebrews 10:23).

A precious woman of God in our church shared with me how the Lord had prompted her heart to speak God’s Word in faith over herself, her children, her marriage and all of her possessions. She told me that the results of her confessions were astonishing. Every area of her life experienced the blessings of the Lord.

Every day I do my best to confess God’s Word over my family and myself. When I pray over Paula as we begin our workdays I try to confess God’s Word over her. One night the Lord quickened our hearts to speak some specific confessions concerning Shea and Michele. It was amazing the things that happened in their lives the very next week; things that Shea had been praying for a long time all happened in a matter of days.

I am not saying that God is a holy slot machine, where we plug in a few principles and all of a sudden blessings come pouring out. There are many factors involved in walking and living as men and women of God. But I am saying that every facet of the provisions of God are released in our lives through the principle of confession. God has shown us again and again the significance of confessing that which God has spoken over us.

As time progresses I will speak more about the importance of our words. My prayer is that all of us could see the resources of God released into our lives. Whether the resources concern eternal life, forgiveness of sin, healing, deliverance, or resources for living in this world, confession is an important part of seeing those resources released.  I know for sure it is our Heavenly Father’s heart to see us walk in the fullness of His provisions.

What do you need to confess into your life?  How about starting with these, then ask the Lord to show you more.  As you confess, speak the words aloud.  Remember, words matter!  Also, replace the pronoun so it’s clear to you that God is not speaking just in general terms, but He’s talking about you!  For example, instead of saying:

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness” (Jer 31:3).

Say, “You have loved me with an everlasting love; therefore You have drawn me with lovingkindness.”

The LORD your God is in your midst, a victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy (Zephaniah 3:17).

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!” (Isaiah 43:1).

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12).

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12).

“You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).
