Those definitions that begin with a Hebrew or Greek word are identified by an (H) or (G). The definitions are not intended to be complete definitions of the word, but are Biblically accurate definitions as they apply to DPI Ministries teachings.
An emotion that is generated out of the pain of living in a world filled with sin and death, unrighteousness and injustice. Anger is a sin and a sign of a stronghold if I sin in my anger, I hold on to my anger or I use anger to protect myself.
kophar (H) - To cover. - In the Hebrew language, there were no words that meant complete forgiveness. The word atonement neither indicates a forgiveness of sins nor a washing away of sins, rather the animal sacrifices merely covered over the sins (Hebrews 10:1-4).
aman (H) - To make firm. - As in "When I believe I am making firm the promises or word of God. - Along with "trust", the verbal expression of the noun "faith". When one has faith the action is to believe if you have a word or promise from God and trust in His character if you don't. - The word picture is to hold a pencil in your hand. The pencil would represent a word or promise that we received.
A situation, person or place that can instantly take a believer's mind, which was formerly set on the spirit, and change it to a mind set on the things of the flesh.
Separation, as in the separation of the spirit from the body (2 Corinthians 5:6-8), or decay, as in the process of decay that happens to a body once a person has died (Genesis 3:19).
Feelings, positive or negative, which signal an event or occurance. Emotions occur in every part of our being, so we can be subjected physical emotions, soulish emotions and spiritual emotions.
The noun whose verbal actions are to believe and to trust. - When I have faith I believe and/or trust in the person or thing of which I have faith in. - (Hebrews 11:1).
Expressed in Scripture in six ways: physical body, heritage or race, qualifications, ability or talent, performance or perfectionism, utterly sinful things. - The part of a person connected to this world. - The place within us that the Person of Sin resides.
elpis (G) - The desire of some good with the expectation of obtaining it. - The focus or object of our faith. - The word picture is a flashlight. Faith is the light and hope would be the object that reflects the light. - See Freedom Chapter 16.
The spiritual debt of death that occurs when a person enters the world and egages in a sinful act, which was paid for by Jesus on the cross. - (Romans 6:23).
The nature of sin that pushes us to do sinful acts, which is transferred to us through the act of being born into a sinful world, and is overcome by being born again through belief in Christ. - (Romans 5:15).
Emotions, positive or negative, that signal an event in the physical realm and originate out of a physical need (e.g hunger), a physical malfunction (e.g. an injury), a physical process (e.g. child birth) or a physical simulus (e.g. a smell, sound or touch).
Stored conclusions in our heart (stinkin' thinkin') that come from the lust of the flesh or our environment that is overcome through transforming of the mind by exposure to the truth of God. - (Colossians 1:21).
A response to being wronged by an authority in your life in which you refuse to submit to that person's authority or obey a just command either in your heart or through physical action.
Have another mind about. - A person's sincere realization and admission that he or she is wrong and that he or she sincerely desires to use every resource available to allow change to occur. - The word picture is a person walking in one direction and changing his or her mind, turning around and walking in a new direction.
harmatia (G) - An archery term meaning to miss the bullseye, which is the glory of God. So, sin is living outside the thoughts and opinions of God. - (Romans 3:23).
The part of a person containing the mind (conscious mind) and heart (subcounscious mind). The chooser that determines if we focus on the Spirit or the Flesh.
batach (H) - To attach oneself to. - Along with "believe", the verbal expression of the noun "faith". - When one has faith the action is to trust in His character if you don't have a word or promise from God and believe if you do. - The word picture is a plug coming from our heart. Where we place our trust is the place we connect the plug.
Scripture defines truth with two components: The "Who is truth?", which refers to the relational aspect of Jesus Christ as God's truth to us (John 14:6) and the "What is truth?", which refers to the Word of God as the revelational aspect of God's truth (John 17:17).
To place, place together or throw together. - The word picture is the gathering of information and placing the information together in a conclusion or application for our life.
